Wood and steel
Davide Sozzi’s table is made of these two materials and is named after the Greek god of speech, writing and magic.
The trapezoid-shaped base is a truncated steel pyramid with an iridescent gold finish on the inside and a dark bronze finish outside. The wooden tabletop hovers in the air like a trampoline and has a pronounced overhang and rounded corners.
A slit in the middle of the tabletop provides a surprising element, like a canyon in the wooden landscape. It is not a wound, but an opening that permits a look at the shimmering glint of the tabletop’s supporting base. This solution connects “above and below”, and the reflections emanating from the base can rise up to the table surface. This opens a passageway to what lies beneath - perhaps the magic of which Hermes was patron in Greek culture.
